Biography

Multi-instrumentalist, keyboard specialist, producer and arranger Tom Powell is not only all these things but he also maintains strong ties in his community of Bridgeport, CT as musical director at his local church. Tom Powell also known as Tom Tom, “The Other Musician” and “The Other Minstrel” is noted for his own special style as he uses no samples, sound effects, etc. to achieve his signature sound. His credits include many major label releases including JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise as the featured organist on five releases to date. The most recent on Light Records charted at No. 1 on Billboard magazine’s Gospel chart. Powell was also featured on three tracks (“Miracle,” “Healing” and “What’s Coming Is Better”) from Deon Kipping on Verity Records. Powell has also produced albums for the Youth Outreach Mass Choir in Toronto, Canada and area artists such has Christopher Edwards CD “No More Glass Ceilings” which featured the track “Hallelujah Chant” recorded by Bishop T.D. Jakes in Dallas, Texas. Other credits include artists such as Jennifer Johnson, Ace Livingston, Beulah Heights Mass Choir and a touring stint with Dru Hill and Aaron Hall. Tom Powell’s contributions to other artists’ releases have garnered notice across the Gospel world.  His early start in music and his influences which include Walter and Edwin Hawkins, Thomas Whitfield and Sting helped form the wealth of musical talent and knowledge that he gives to all his projects.  He also served under the leadership of Bishop J.C. White as musical director for fifteen years.  White is the writer of the world renowned classic Gospel hit “Stretch Out.”  Powell’s services are available as an arranger, multi-instrumentalist and producer.
